A Message From Evelyn Kormanik:

Welcome. Thank you for visiting our new Internet website.  We want to give you the opportunity to stay in touch with us and keep up with our “activities calendar.”  We’d also love to help you start your own giving circle.

What is a giving circle?  Pretty much what the name indicates.  In January 2008 introductory flyers were sent to friends and neighbors announcing a social gathering to talk about how we could be more helpful and active in our Staten Island community.  About 20 friends attended our first meeting; we became acquainted with each other, enjoyed dessert and coffee and talked about community outreach.  At the end of the meeting, we started our first/most productive tradition.  We were offered $10 raffle tickets (buy as many as you like).  We put all the tickets in a “hat” and pulled the winning ticket.  The winner chose a charity of her choice where the monies were sent.

We meet once a month and since our group began growing immediately, the total collections continued to rise as well.  We quickly made the decision to have two winners each month (split the pot).   We are proud to boast that since January 2008 to date, we have collected and distributed over $52,000 in money donations.

Our minds and hearts are always working.  If you see a need, please let us know.

Whether this is your first contact with us or if you have been following us right along, please provide questions, comments and input to Evelyn Kormanik at:
sigivingcircle@aol.com.  Again, we’d also love to help you start your own giving circle.

*The Staten Island Giving Circle is now accepting donations through our website.  Please be advised that we are not a 501(3)(c) organization simply because the paperwork would be voluminous trying to track $10 and $20 donations individually.  You can, if you choose, earmark your donations for your charity of choice (for a raffle pull) or tell us simply to “add to general fund” for community outreach activities.
