PROJECTS
We are always looking for different ways to GIVE help. Below are some of our latest "brainstorms." Feel free to SHARE YOUR IDEAS with us.
Easter Initiative 2013
A group of teen girls made about 100 Easter baskets which were split between the children's homeless shelter and another very impoverished community within Staten Island.
October and November Penny Harvest
Food is one of our primary collection objectives throughout the year (see Food Pantries and Soup Kitchens below). So for October and November, we are asking you to bring in your spare pennies and Margaret will turn them into food bargains with her coupons and keen bargain shopping.
Prom Attire Collection for 2013
We have already garnered some contributions for our 2013 Prom Attire Collection. In the last couple of years, it has been strictly prom gowns, but this year, we want to accept evening bags, shoes, under garments and tuxedos and we want to keep our project on Staten Island. We hope to collaborate with W Girls NYC or Operation Fairydust, but we also want to keep a good portion of our collection right on Staten Island.
Back Packs and School Supplies
Over the summer, we collected 300+ back packs (with a generous donation of 200 from Lina Fang) and stuffed them with school supplies. These back packs were distributed to children in the Stapleton area and to Mt. Loretto-area children. We want to keep the school supplies flowing throughout the year, not just at the beginning of the school year, so we are ALWAYS looking for marble composition books, in particular, and other school supplies necessary for kids to learn and be in step with other kids.
Food Pantries and Soup Kitchens
We put a great deal of emphasis on constant collections of food and sundry items for people using Staten Island's numerous food pantries. Also, fresh produce, frozen turkeys, etc. can be used at the Stapleton soup kitchen and for food preparation at the Jewett Avenue Senior Center. My porch is ALWAYS available for INCOMING food. My CEO (Carry Everything Out) person, Mike, can handle any amount of food you choose to donate!
Medical Supplies
We are always looking for MEDICAL SUPPLIES for children, seniors and families in need. Think bandages, vitamins, aspirin, A&D ointment, ACE bandages, cough syrup, etc.
*The Staten Island Giving Circle is now accepting donations through our website. Please be advised that we are not a 501(3)(c) organization simply because the paperwork would be voluminous trying to track $10 and $20 donations individually. You can, if you choose, earmark your donations for your charity of choice (for a raffle pull) or tell us simply to “add to general fund” for community outreach activities.
